The first Croatian festival of jams and marmalades held

In co-operation with the Association for promotion, growing, protection and manufacture of the fruits of wild orange „ Dubrovnik orange“, DEŠA-Dubrovnik organized First Croatian Festival of jams and marmalades. The Festival was held from October 5th to October 7th in Dubrovnik.  The sponsors and co-organizers were the Ministry of agriculture, forestry and water management , the City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik-neretva county. The general sponsor of the Festival was the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

This manifestation took place at DESA's premises, and with the abundance of the products and festive cultural programe it aroused great interest of local population as well as tourists visiting Dubrovnik. More than 20 exibitors from all over the Croatia  participated with 70 different products. The awarding committee, that was made up of eminent experts, after a thorough and hard work, have chosen the best products in all cathegories ( jams and marmalades). The offical award of the prizes for the best products was organized on the festive supper on October 6th.
Besides promotional and reviewing  component, this festival also had an educational character. The round table on the topics of production, law regulations concerning production of jam and marmalade, programs of the marketing  preparation of agricultural products and all state incentives for agriculture and production, was organized on the October 5th. During the course of the round table, the eminent experts from the  Ministry of agriculture, forestry and water management and the Faculty for the food and technology from  Osijek, provided  a great number of useful informaton to the producers and visitors.
This was for  the first time  that such manifestation has been organized in Dubrovnik and Croatia, and it represents an unique way to promote the jams and marmalades as  autochthonous products and souvenirs.

   

The main goal of this manifestation was to gather all small producers of jams and marmalades from Croatia and to show the abundance, diversity and potentials of our country. Each stall was decorated with traditional handicrafts and all exibitors were dressed in national costumes of their region.
Through casual keeping company with each others, gaining new knowledge and exchange of experiences, all participants of the Festival ebpressed their great satisfaction and concluded that this Festival should be  in future organized in Dubrovnik again.
