DESA's Story
DESA (desha) is a non-governmental organization operating
in Dubrovnik, Croatia, founded immediately after the 91/92
war. Its aim was and remains to help women and their families
to make the best of their own reality. DESA's present task
is to improve women's economic independence by stimulating
the development of various creative, money earning activities
and also to promote their active participation in a democratic
society.
The history of the organization's activities clearly shows
the way in which it has developed over the years, from the
help it had initially organized for refugee and displaced
women in the period of emergency, to the introduction of
special projects, made to measure for the post-war reconstruction
problems. DESA has evolved from providing work for therapeutic
purposes to offering occupational training and self help
projects. |
