DESA's educational centar

Our new DESA (Desha) home in Lazareti is designed for multiple purposes, and every corner is well-used. The main room is the exhibition hall and the gallery where the artistic creations of DESA's women-members are displayed. There is also a kitchen, one guest room,  a storage space, an office and three large working rooms - one for sewing and patchwork, one for language classes and training seminars, and one which serves as a computer lab.

The Center hosts a variety of special events. At Easter time, for instance, there are open workshops in eggpainting and palm weaving. At Christmas there is traditional Christmas Fair. If you come to visit us on any given ocassion you will find volunteers and DESA members involved in our numerous activities and projects.

DESA's center is also the place where traditional art forms are nurtured through development of practical skills. In DESA's exhibition room you can find authentic, hand-made products such as woven and embroidered decorative items for home, as well as patchwork and accessories. These items are made on the spot, in DESA's Center workshops.

are essential for operating in tourism and entrepreneurial business. DESA language courses are intended for the unemployed, as well as for new business starters.

  Computer workshops

  DESA offers several workshops a week (basic and advanced) aimed to increaase computer literacy with the unemployed and youth. Courses in Word, Excel and the Web usage are given in a computer lab by certified trainers. Information Technology has become a standard of the affluent world and computer skills vital for succeeding in it. Yet the opportunity to learn how to use computers is often similarly stratified by wealth. DESA seeks to even out the access with these highly successful workshops.

   

  DESA's (Desha's) Center became very popular for its seminars, public lectures, round tables on all kinds of subjects, from self-help issues to counseling on healthy living, ecology, democracy and tolerance. DESA's (Desha's) Center is the heart of our community, providing new opportunities to spread our message.
